Pica have long been regarded as a leader in scale aircraft kit manufacture. The company ceased production during the past two years, so it is unlikely that this kit will ever be available again, except on the rare occasion one comes along like this. I purchased this kit several years ago, with the intention of building it in my retirement. Circumstances change, and it will be unlikely that I will find the time in the near to distant future. It seems a shame to have the kit just sitting in the box, as it is meant to fly.
The Pica P-51 kit is detailed in the ‘Cripes A Mighty 3rd’ colour scheme. It has a 2.26 metre wingspan (89 inches) 58.4cm (23 inch) wing chord, 1.97 metre fuselage length and weighs around 6.8 – 8.2 kg (15 – 18 lbs) It is a BIG scale aircraft. The kit is of balsa/lite ply construction, with step by step instruction, full size plans, mylar, pressure sensitive decals, flaps, retract set up notes, ABS cowling, butyrate canopy, wing fairings, air scoop, hardware package and pre bent landing gear, should you choose to have a fixed undercarriage. This sale also comes with a new Super Tigre 3000 engine, and the Custom Model Products in cowl muffler I had built for it. The muffler is very effective in quietening down the engine noise, and fits perfectly inside the Mustang cowl. In its inverted mounting position, the exhaust pipes exit the bottom of the cowl. There is also a Custom Model Products, spun aluminium spinner. An MAS 20-8 Classic prop and an 18-8 Zinger wooden prop are included. I also bought a set of Impact Engineering 1/5 scale Mustang air retracts. These struts are shock absorbing units and of very high quality. Dubro 12.7cm (5 inch) inflatable wheels and Dubro pump. There are JTec instrument decals and a Pica Scale Cockpit Interior. Replacement/purchase value of this kit and accessories, would be in the vicinity of $2800.
